LAS VEGAS(UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV saw two singles players advance during the third day of the 2016 ITA Mountain Region Men's Tennis Championships presented by Oracle and being held here at the Darling Tennis Center.

Still alive and heading to Saturday's semifinals are No. 3 seed and 124th-ranked Jakob Amilon, who downed Cristofer Goncalvas of New Mexico State 6-3, 7-5. Amilon is set to play 17th-seeded Santiago Sierra of Utah on Saturday. Alexandr Cozbinov, seeded fourth, got by Ricky Hernandez Tong of New Mexico, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 to advance to Saturday's play against ninth-seeded Kai Wehnelt of Utah State.

Following their matches Coach Owen Hambrook said, "Jakob and Alex got through some tough matches today and competed well."

Moving to round of 16 doubles, fourth-seeded Amilon and Ruben Alberts downed ninth-seeded Parker McGuiness and David Micevski of Utah 8-6 to advance to quarterfinals; while, Cozbinov and Courtney Lock were downed by second-seeded Alex Gasson and Yannik James of Denver 8-7.

In quarterfinals, Amilon and Alberts' saw their time at regionals be cut short after being ousted by eighth-seeded Luis Flores and Christofer Goncalvas of New Mexico State 8-7.

Members from 16 western teams are facing off as individuals through Sunday each day in both singles and doubles. This is one of 24 USTA/ITA Regional Championships for NCAA Division I men and women taking place over these middle two weekends of October at campuses throughout the country. The singles and doubles champions will advance to the 2016 USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, taking place November 3-6, at the indoor facilities at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, located in Flushing, N.Y.
