Nov. 21, 2016 LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Terri Anderson has joined the UNLV track & field coaching staff after spending the previous two years as an assistant at Western Illinois University, where she over saw the throwers, announced head coach Yvonne Wade.
In Anderson's first season at WIU, several throwers posted personal bests in competition. Under her tutelage, Sheila Grant-Shaffer climbed to seventh in the program's all-time hammer throw rankings. At both the Indoor and Outdoor Summit League Championships, she guided multiple Leathernecks to scoring performances.
In 2016, she mentored Max Ford, who broke WIU's javelin record - a mark that stood for nearly three decades, to a trip to the NCAA East Preliminary.
Anderson attended Purdue University where she was a four-year letterwinner, four-time NCAA First Round qualifier and a NCAA Championship qualifier, earning Second Team All-American honors. While at Purdue, the Haysville, Kansas, native was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2009, and scored at every Conference meet. She finished her collegiate career ranked third all-time in indoor shot put, fourth in outdoor shot put and second in discus in the program's record books.
Anderson holds the state record for discus in Kansas. She earned back-to-back state titles in the event her junior and senior years at Campus High School in Wichita. She also holds the school records for shot put and discus, and qualified for state in discus all four years, and multiple times in shot put. Her highest finish in the shot put was third place in the state, and she never finished lower than third in the discus.
Between her time at Purdue and WIU, Anderson focused on training and Olympic lifting while also coaching high school track in Indianapolis and eventually coaching club volleyball back home in Kansas.
Anderson graduated from Purdue in 2012 with an undergraduate degree in law and society with minors in leadership and forensic science. In 2016, she obtained her master's degree of science with a specialization in sport management.
