TAMPA, Fla. (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV softball lost to Wisconsin 6-3 at the USF Softball Stadium on Sunday morning in the consolation game of the USF Tournament. The Rebels fall to 8-8 while the Badgers improve to 7-7.
Wisconsin seized a 4-0 lead after two innings to put the game out of reach for UNLV. The Badgers took advantage of an error in the first inning and used a RBI single to grab a one-run lead. In the second inning they hit four singles to score three more runs.
The Rebels cut their deficit to two in the next inning. With one out Jadelyn Yadao-Valdez hit an infield single near the second baseman and stole second base. Jamie DePippo then hit her second home run of the tournament and season.
After Wisconsin hit its own two-run homer in the fifth inning, the Rebels responded in their turn at the plate in the inning with one run scored. Yadao-Valdez singled to the pitcher and stole second to lead off the inning. After Garie Blando walked, DePippo advanced both baserunners with a sacrifice bunt. Alyssa Cordova hit an infield single with two outs that allowed Yadao-Valdez to get home safely. Cordova then stole second base to put two Rebels in scoring position, but a ground out ended the inning.
Kwyn Cooper started the game in the pitching circle and was relieved by Alyssa Batastini in the second inning. Janine Petmecky pitched the last three innings of the game with two hits, one run and no walks allowed with two strikeouts.
UNLV had six different batters with a hit, and Yadao-Valdez led the way with two along with two stolen bases. In the five games of the tournament DePippo went 6-14 with a double, two home runs, four runs and six RBIs.
The Rebels return home for the Alexis Park Resort Classic next week. UNLV will face Southern Utah next Thursday at 6:00 p.m. to kick off the third home tournament of the season.
