LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The No. 52 and undefeated UNLV women's tennis team edged San Jose State 4-3 Friday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex to spoil the Spartans' Mountain West debut.

The Rebels improved to 19-0 overall and 3-0 in conference play while the Spartans dropped to 8-7 and 0-1.

UNLV gained a 1-0 lead to start the match by winning the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and 3 spots. The No. 76 ranked duo, Carol Yang and Aiwen Zhu downed Marie Klocker and Gaelle Rey 6-1 at the top position while Iren Kotseva and Paola Artiga upended Miyo Kobayashi and Justine Deleval 6-2 on court three to clinch the point.

Moving to singles, the hosts won three matches. The Rebels took a 2-0 advantage after Kotseva started singles play with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Deleval. The Spartans, though, began to turn the momentum with two straight wins to tie the match. Artiga, a junior, tasted defeat for the first time in dual matches this season, 3-6, 6-1, 6-0, to Gaelle Rey at No. 3. She is now 18-1 in dual matches and 27-5 overall. Anna Bogoslavets grabbed a 6-4, 7-6(8) win at No. 4 over Marine Dans before San Jose State tied the match up again at three. In the final match, Yang was pushed to a third set but outlasted Sybille Gauvain 7-6, 3-6, 6-3 on court one.

Next up, UNLV will road trip to California to take on conference opponent and No. 39 ranked Fresno State. Doubles will begin at 10 a.m. PT.
