Boise, Idaho (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's tennis team lost its second Mountain West Conference matchup, 4-1, to No. 68 Boise State on Sunday at the Appleton Tennis Center.
The Rebels fell to 9-9 overall and 3-2 in league play while the Broncos improved to 16-9 and 5-2 in conference play.
Boise State bolted to a 1-0 lead by taking two of three doubles matches. The deciding point came down to a close battle at the middle of the lineup, but Bronco tandem Lewis Roskilly and Thomas Tenreiro fended off Rebel netters Adam Gage-Brown and Evaldo Neto 6-4 on court two to clinch it. The Rebels lone victory came at the top of the lineup where Jakob Amilon and Ruben Alberts defeated Kyle Butters and Toby Mitchell 6-4.
Moving to singles play, Boise State quickly forged a 2-0 advantage before Evaldo Neto downed Pedro Platzeck 6-1, 6-1 to get the Rebels on the board. However, the Broncos would dominate the rest of the singles matches with two more completed straight-set wins.
The Rebels will return to the Fertitta Tennis Complex Saturday as they are set to host a doubleheader against San Diego State and then Southern Utah, starting with doubles play at 1 p.m. PT. Admission to all UNLV home matches is free of charge.
