April 6, 2016 LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field team will return to California for the second straight weekend with a stop at UCLA's Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational. The one-day meet will take place at UCLA's Drake Stadium.
The field events begin at 10 a.m., while the track events start at 12:00 p.m. Besides the host Bruins, the Rebels will also compete against Minnesota and Florida State. UNLV will have a total of 25 student-athletes participate in Saturday's action. Overall, UNLV will compete in 18 events (11 track and seven field).
Kaysee Pilgrim, who jumped a 5-10.75 (1.79m) for first place at the Mondo Invitational in Sacramento last week, looks to one-up her previous measurement in the high jump this weekend. Joining Pilgrim in the high jump will be Stella Clemens and Madison Johonnot.
The foursome of Micayla Coquia, Destiny Smith-Barnett, Ayana Gales and Drea Austin will comprise the 4x100m relay. At the Mondo Invitational, the relay finished first in a time of 45.32. Coquia and Austin will also compete in the 100m and 200m, respectively. Coquia as well as Laura Anuakpado, Joniece Ervin, Mandy Chitwood, Coquia and Auzsane Crowe-Carter, will represent the 4x400m relay portion. Chitwood, who's coming off a personal best in the 800m, will compete in the 800m this weekend. Other events that members of the 4x400m relay team will be competing in are the 100m and 200m (Anuakpado), 400m hurdles (Ervin), 800m (Crowe-Carter).
Others competing for the Rebels are Myshauna Alexander (hammer and shot put), Kyra Day (hammer), Stella Clemens (shot put), Gales (long jump, triple jump), Rebecca Hobby (3000 steeplechase), Miranda Menzies (1500m), Cortney Miller (hammer), Spencer Moore (1500m), Amari Norris (100m hurdles), Taylor Pegram (100m hurdles, long jump), Nikki Regalado (1500m), Sierra (hammer, discus and shot put), Shaye'e Swaine (400m) and Sara Williams (3000m).
