LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field team will return to Clovis, Calif., for the 2016 Mountain West Outdoor Championships, which is hosted by Fresno State and will run May 11-14. The four-day meet gets started Wednesday and Thursday with the women's heptathlon at Buchanan High School's Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Stella Clemens will get things going for the Scarlet & Gray in the heptathlon Wednesday at 4:30 pm with the 100m hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200m. Clemens will participate in the long jump, javelin and 800m Thursday to close out the event that is comprised of seven disciplines.

Not only will Clemens compete in the heptathlon - seeded seventh (4667 points), but she will also participate in the long jump and javelin throw, which will take place Friday and Saturday, respectively.

"Our goal is to compete hard and get as many athletes into the finals as possible," said head coach Yvonne Wade. "Getting into finals is the only way to score points. The other teams in the Conference are also doing their best to get into the finals and they just won't hand it to us so we will have to work. It is going to take the effort of the entire team to come together and show up when it counts."

Friday's action gets underway at 3:30 pm with the hammer throw, while the track portion begins at 4:30 pm with the men's 1500m. The women's 1500m will start 15 minutes later. Field events will conclude at 6:00 pm with the women's shot put while the steeplechase closes out Friday's slate at 8:00 pm.

The fourth and final day of the meet starts with the women's discus throw at 3:30 pm. The 4x400m relay closes the women's portion of the meet at 8:55 pm.

The Rebels finished fifth overall at last year's conference meet at San Diego State's Sports Deck. Auzsane Crowe-Carter is looking for a three-peat in the 800m after last year's win with a time of 2:08.63 earning her All-MW honors, while Drea Austin (Las Vegas/Foothill HS) and the 4x100m team claimed All-MW honors for their second-place finishes.

Crowe-Carter enters this week's meet with the fastest 800m amongst MW competitors. She ran 2:06.76 at the adidas/Steve Scott Invitational on April 30. Kaysee Pilgrim enters this week's meet with the top spot in the high jump amongst MW competitors. She jumped a program-best 6-0.75 (1.85m) at the Mt. SAC Relays on April 17.

Some notable Rebels that placed their name on the all-time program list that will compete this week are Spencer Moore, who is now fifth all-time in the 1500m with a time of 4:29.18 at the Mt. SAC Relays. Rebecca Hobby, who is now fourth all-time in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 11:06.06 at the Rafer Johnson-Jackie Joyner Kersee Invitational, will also compete in the 5000m.

Myshauna Alexander claimed first in the 2013 MW Outdoor Championships sits sixth in the event (152-0/46.32m - adidas/Steve Scott Invitational). Alexander will also compete in the hammer throw alongside teammate Kyra Day. The Rebel 4x100m relay squad of Micayla Coquia (Las Vegas/Legacy HS), Destiny Smith-Barnett, Ayana Gales and Austin (Las Vegas/Canyon Springs HS) sits second after running 44.88 at the adidas/Steve Scott Invitational.

Taylor Pegram, Amari Norris (Las Vegas/Silverado HS) and Joniece Ervin look to fill three lanes in the finals of the 100m hurdles slated for Friday at 5:15 pm. Ervin will also compete in the 400m hurdles. Sara Williams and Nikki Regalado will share duties in the 5000m and 10,000m. Williams captured a fifth-best mark in the 10,000m after her 36:25.60 time in the Mt. SAC Relays, good enough for 10th best time the MW.

In addition to Crowe-Carter, Pilgrim, Alexander and one relay quartet, UNLV has 10 more that are ranked in the top 10 in the most recent MW standings. Austin is fifth in the 100m (11.58) and second in the 200m (23.45), while Smith-Barnett is second (11.46) in the 100m. In the 800m, Mandy Chitwood (Las Vegas/Canyon Springs HS) is fifth (2:08.78), Miranda Menzies is eighth (2:11.08) and Moore is ninth (2:12.96). Gales ranks second in long jump (20-9.75/6.34m) as well as fifth on the all-time program list. Cortney Miller (Las Vegas/Calvary Chapel Christian HS) is second in the hammer throw (199-4/60.75m) as well as third on the all-time program list. In the hurdles, Pegram is fifth (13.61) and Norris is ninth (13.88) in the 100m, while Ervin is 10th in the 400m (1:02.07). Akia Armstrong sits fifth in the long jump (19-4.25/5.90m).
