LAWRENCE, Kan. (UNLVRebels.com) - As a result of inclement weather in the area, day one the 2016 NCAA West Preliminary has been washed away. Only the first two flights of the women's javelin and men's hammer were completed Friday before calling everyone into a secure location for a tornado/thunder storm to pass.

The remainder of this weekend's schedule has been revised with the elimination of one round of competition, meaning straight to the quarterfinals. The winner of each heat plus the next six fastest times will now advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships skipping the quarterfinal round.

The West Preliminary is one of two qualifiers the NCAA is hosting before its Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore., on June 8-11. The East Preliminary will run concurrently - with the West - in Jacksonville, Fla., at the University of North Florida.

Myshauna Alexander competed in the first flight of the javelin throw, and sits 28th through two flights. The javelin resumes at 9:00 am CT (7:00 am PT) Friday. Alexander entered the meet seeded 43rd behind a season-best throw of 152-0 (46.32m), which was registered at the adidas/Steve Scott Invitational. She is looking to make her second appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships after she finished 18th at the 2013 national meet.

Destiny Smith-Barnett, Drea Austin (Las Vegas/Foothill HS) and Asia Cooper will compete at 9:20 am CT (7:20 am PT) in the 100m. Smith-Barnett is seeded 12th (11.32-w), Austin is seeded 15th (11.34-w) and Cooper is seeded 47th (11.62-w).

Kaysee Pilgrim and Cortney Miller will start Friday's slate of events at 10:30 pm CT (8:30 pm PT) in the high jump inside Anschutz Pavilion and hammer throw, respectively. The former carries a program-best distance of 6-0.75 (1.85m), which occurred at the Mt. SAC Relays, while the latter ranks 18th in the region in the hammer throw with a personal-best distance of 199-4 (60.75m) at the UNLV Spring Invitational.

Auzsane Crowe-Carter, who is coming off a second-place finish at the Mountain West Outdoor Championships in the 800m, is seeded 22nd behind a season-best time of 2:06.76 tallied at the adidas/Steve Scott Invitational will follow 30 minutes later (11:00 am CT/9:00 am PT).

Ayana Gales, who is seeded seventh in the long jump and ranked 22nd nationally, concludes Friday's portion at 2:30 pm CT (12:30 pm PT). Gales enters the meet ranked fifth all-time in program history after her 20-9.75 (6.34m) at the Bulldog Invitational.

The 4x100m relay team of Micayla Coquia, Smith-Barnett, Gales, Austin and Cooper will start Saturday's slate of events at 10:00 am CT (8:00 am PT). The relay team ranks 15th in the event with a time of 44.88. Taylor Pegram ranks 45th in the region in the 100m hurdles with a personal-best time of 13.61 at the UC Riverside Invitational. She will start at 11:30 am CT (9:30 am PT).

Austin, who was fourth at the Conference meet time of 23.59 (w), will also have a go Saturday in the 200m at 12:30 pm CT (10:30 am PT).
