LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field program will send two student-athletes to Eugene, Ore., for the 2016 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Ayana Gales and Kaysee Pilgrim will participate in the four-day meet that begins Wednesday (June 8) and runs through Saturday (June 11) at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon.
Gales, a native of San Bernardino, Calif., is seeded 21st and will be first of the Rebel duo to compete with her final in the long jump set for Thursday at 6:00 pm. She enters the 2016 competition after jumping 19-10.25 (6.05m) two weeks ago at the NCAA West Preliminary in Lawrence, Kan. She etched her name on the program's all-time outdoor list with its fifth-best performance at the Bulldog Invitational with a distance of 20-9.75 (6.34m).
Pilgrim, who hails from Phoenix, is seeded 19th overall in the high jump and must wait until Saturday at 3:00 pm with her final in the high jump. She jumped 5-10.75 (1.80m) at the West Preliminary in Lawrence to qualify for the national meet. Earlier in the season, she became the program's record holder in the event with a jump of 6-0.75 (1.85m) at the Mt. SAC Relays.
The ESPN family of networks will broadcast the meet beginning with Wednesday's action slated for 4:30 to 5:30 pm on ESPNU and 5:30 to 8:00 pm on ESPN2. Thursday's (5:00 to 8:00 pm), Friday's (5:30 to 8:00 pm) and Saturday's (3:30 to 6:00 pm) action will be shown on ESPN. Viewers can also find the televised events on WatchESPN.
