EUGENE, Ore. (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV track & field alumna Amanda Bingson finished fourth overall in the hammer throw at the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials Wednesday afternoon at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon. By virtue of her finish, she fell one spot shy of qualifying for a spot representing the Red, White & Blue at August's Rio Olympics.

The Silverado High School graduate unleashed her best throw in her sixth and final attempt, a mark of 230-8 (70.30m). Prior to that toss, her best had been her second throw (226-5/69.03m), which -- at the time -- pushed her into third; although she dropped back to fourth one round later.

The fourth-place finish is the lowest for Bingson in five years at the national meet. She won the U.S. Championships in both 2013 and 2014 after a second-place showing in 2012 that led to a trip to the London Olympics. Last year, she was third overall, and that outing resulted in a trip to Beijing for the 15th IAAF World Championships.

Bingson remains the American record holder in the hammer throw (248-5 (74.92m) after Gwen Berry's mark of 250-4 (76.31m) was overturned due to the usage of prohibited medication.

Amber Campbell (242-10/74.03m), Berry (239-9/73.09m) and Deanna Price (239-9/73.09m) finished first through third, respectively, in the hammer throw Wednesday, and the trio will travel to Brazil for the Summer Games.

Fellow Rebel alumna Lekeisha Lawson competes Friday in the 200m first round, just five days after a 17th-place showing in the 100m semifinals.

Rising senior Kaysee Pilgrim also participated at the Olympic Trials and placed 11th in the high jump.
