LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's basketball team (8-9, 1-3 MW) will play its second straight road game on Tuesday, Jan. 10, at New Mexico (9-7, 2-2 MW) at 7 p.m. MT / 6 p.m. PT at WisePies Arena / The Pit (15,411).
The Runnin' Rebels are looking for their second Mountain West win of the year. After beating Wyoming at home on Dec. 31, 81-75, UNLV lost at home to Boise State last Wednesday, 77-59, then lost at Utah State, 79-63, on Saturday.
UNLV, which is 1-3 in true road games this year, is led in scoring by sophomore guard Jalen Poyser (13.5 ppg), senior forward Tyrell Green (12.4 ppg), senior forward Christian Jones (10.8 ppg), junior guard Jovan Mooring (9.1 ppg) and sophomore guard Kris Clyburn (8.9 ppg). Clyburn (6.4 rpg), Jones (6.3 rpg) and Green (6.1 rpg) are the team's leading rebounders, while Mooring (3.6 apg) and Poyser (3.2 apg) lead in assists. Junior forward Dwayne Morgan was leading the team in rebounding (7.3 rpg), but has missed the last eight games because of injury.
New Mexico has lost two straight games: at Utah State (79-75) last Wednesday at vs. Nevada, Reno (105-104 in overtime) at home on Saturday. Prior to that, the Lobos started the Mountain West season 2-0 with wins over Fresno State (78-73) at home and at San Diego State (68-62). UNM is 7-1 this year at The Pit. Senior forward Tim Williams (19.1 ppg) and junior guard Elijah Brown (17.3 ppg) lead the team in scoring. Williams also is the team's rebounding leader (7.1 rpg), while freshman guard Jalen Harris (2.6 apg) and Brown (2.6 apg) lead in assists.
