Feb. 27, 2017 LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV placed a program-best seven individuals and its 4x400m relay on the 2017 Mountain West Indoor Track & Field All-Conference Team. Additionally, Rebel head coach Yvonne Wade was named the MW's Indoor Coach of the Year after she led the Scarlet & Gray to a second-place finish in the three-day meet held at the Albuquerque Convention Center (Feb. 23-25).
All-MW honors are awarded to those that placed in the top three in an event at the indoor meet.
Ayana Gales earned all-conference recognition twice over behind her championship in the long jump and second-place finish in the triple jump.
Drea Austin (third/200m), Mandy Chitwood (800m), Stella Clemens (second/pentathlon), Taylor Pegram (first/60m hurdles), Kaysee Pilgrim (second/high jump) and Destiny Smith-Barnett (third/60m) also represented the Scarlet & Gray.
The relay quartet, which finished second, was comprised of Austin, Micayla Coquia and twin sisters Nylia and Najia Hudspeth.
The program had to make some revisions to its all-time performance record book as Taylor Pegram ran the best 60m hurdles (8.25@) time in Rebel history. Smith-Barnett's time of 7.22@ puts her second in the 60m.Clemens' point total is the third most in the pentathlon (3,783). Three others place third in their respective events, too: Gales in the triple jump (40-6.25/12.35m); Chitwood in the 800m (2:06.77@) and Spencer Moore in the mile (4:57.03@).
