2017 USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Indoor All-America List

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field program's Destiny Smith-Barnett has earned USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Indoor All-America Second Team honors after her participation at the NCAA Indoor Championships at Texas A&M's Gilliam Indoor Stadium. Smith-Barnett finished 14th overall in the preliminary rounds with a time of 7.35 last Friday.

The junior from Oakland, California, is the first Rebel to achieve All-America recognition following an indoor campaign since Amanda Bingson (2000-12) did so in 2012. Bingson claimed first-team status after a seventh-place finish in the weight throw at the NCAA meet.

Delving deeper, Smith-Barnett is the first UNLV track student-athlete to be named an All-American since Ashley Owens in 2006. Owens finished second overall in the 60m.

The program will transition to the outdoor season, which begins this week -- Thursday-Saturday -- at home in its own UNLV Spring Invitational & Sheila Tarr-Smith Multis at Myron Partridge Stadium. The first two days (Thursday and Friday) of competition will be composed of the men's decathlon and women's heptathlon. Day three (Saturday) will be action packed with 37 total events scheduled to take place. The men's and women's 10K kicks off Saturday's slate at 7:30 am.

Fans are encouraged attend the three-day meet. Admission is $5 for adults while UNLV students, children 12 and under and seniors 60-plus are all free of charge.
