March 15, 2017 LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV senior Jakob Amilon was named Mountain West Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the second time this season and fourth time in his career, the conference announced Wednesday.
Playing at the No. 1 positions in the lineup, Amilon went a combined 6-0 in singles and doubles over the weekend while helping the Rebels to a 3-0 mark at home with victories over Boston College, BYU and NAU.
The native of Stockholm, Sweden, did not lose a set while downing Aiden McNulty of Boston College, 6-3, 6-2; Keaton Cullimore of BYU, 7-6, 6-2; and Tim Handel of NAU, 6-3, 6-3. He also teamed with Evaldo Neto to down the top duo from each school and help secure the doubles point in all three outings.
Amilon also won the award February 8 and twice in 2016.
UNLV hosts No. 5 Oklahoma State on Friday starting at 11 a.m. Admission is free of charge and complimentary pizza will be available to fans while supplies last.
