LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Stella Clemens began the 2017 outdoor season for the Rebels Thursday, and sits fifth after day one of the program's own UNLV Spring Invitational/Sheila Tarr-Smith Multis. The three-day meet is being held at Myron Partridge Stadium & Sheila Tarr-Smith Field.
Clemens' best effort came in the shot put with a first-place showing that earned 712 points (41-10.75/12.77m). In the three other events, she was fifth in the 200m (25.97, PB), tied for sixth in the high jump (5-2.25/1.58m) and ninth in the 100m hurdles (15.25, PB).
Friday's showing will see Clemens finish off the heptathlon with the long jump slated for an 11 a.m. start followed by the javelin and 800m. The trio of Vanessa Sierra, Gabby Whetstone and Taylor Forte will close out Friday's slate in the hammer throw at 3 p.m.
Saturday's action starts bright and early at 7:30 am with the men's and women's 10k. At 9:00 am, the women's shot put opens up the schedule for the field events, while the women's 5000m (section 2) continues the track portion. The meet will conclude with the women's 4x400m relay (3:15 pm) and men's 4x400m relay (3:30 pm).
Besides the host Rebels, BYU, Dixie State, Fresno State, Idaho State, Illinois, Northern Colorado, San Jose State, Southern Utah, UC Davis, Utah Valley, Cerritos College and other track clubs are participating in the meet.
