LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field program will hit the road for the first time during the 2017 outdoor campaign this weekend at San Diego State's Aztec Invitational Friday through Saturday.
The women's portion of the Invite will feature Air Force, BYU, Cal Baptist, Grand Canyon, Loyola Marymount, No. 25 SDSU, UCSB, UC San Diego, UC Riverside, No. 5 USC, Utah Valley, Wisconsin and other track clubs at this weekend's meet.
The trio of Gabby Whetstone, Vanessa Sierra and Taylor Forte will start the meet in their respective events in the javelin (Whetstone, 9:00 a.m.), hammer (Whetstone and Sierra, 10:00 a.m.), shot put (Sierra, 3:00 p.m.) and discus (Forte and Sierra, 4:00 p.m.) at UC San Diego on Friday.
The remainder of UNLV's contingent will compete in a total of 12 events Friday beginning with Tenia Landrum's participation in the long jump at 11:00 a.m. The night will conclude with Nikki Regalado in the 3000m at 8:00 p.m.
Saturday's slate will begin with the 4x100m relay at 9:50 am. The first field event that the Rebels will take part in is the long jump at 10:30 am. The day will conclude with the 4x400m relay at 4:40 pm.
Most recently, the Rebels hosted the UNLV Invitational & Sheila Tarr-Smith Multis. They claimed first place in nine overall events and had five capture personal-best finishes. Individual first-place finishes for UNLV were Taylor Pegram, in the 100m hurdles (13.43 PB), who is now first all-time on UNLV's outdoor program list; Najia Hudspeth in the 100m (11.63) and 200m (23.67); Spencer Moore in the 800m (2:15.54); Regalado in the 5000m (17:17.96); Kaysee Pilgrim in the high jump (5-9.25/1.76m) and Landrum in the long jump (18-5.75/5.63m).
