Aztec Invitational Results
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field program witnessed 14 individuals and six relay squads notch top-eight finishes on the second and final day of the Aztec Invitational hosted by San Diego State. Mandy Chitwood had the highest individual placement for the Rebels with her 2:09.61 showing in the 800m run at the SDSU Sports Deck Saturday.
"We used this weekend as a work weekend for our athletes so that can face up against other top teams in the west region and get the experience," said head coach Yvonne Wade. "No. 5 USC and No. 25 SDSU gave us that quality competition."
The 4x400m relay saw the "A" quartet comprised of Micayla Coquia, Chitwood, Nylia Hudspeth and Najia Hudspeth leg out a first-place time of 3:45.74. The "B" group of Madison Aldred, Hannah Davis, Joniece Ervin and Sydney Land was third (3:57.46) while the "C" edition of Yamilet Biggers Janeek Mollique, Stella Clemens and Spencer Moore was fourth (3:57.58).
In the 4x100m relay, the "A" squad comprised of Destiny Smith-Barnett, Kaysha Love, Najia Hudspeth and Ayana Gales finished third (44.85) and the "B" quartet of Coquia, Amari Norris, Jaela Williams, Nylia Hudspeth finished fourth (47.09).
The Scarlet & Gray had three finish between third and eighth in the 400m. Nylia Hudspeth led the way with her third-place showing in 56.00 while Micayla Coquia was fourth (56.28 PB) and Madison Aldred was eighth (57.12).
In the remaining track events, Austin tied her personal best in the 100m with a fourth-place finish (11.63), while the 200m saw Najia Hudspeth (23.97, fifth place), Smith-Barnett (24.10, seventh) as well as Amari Norris' personal best time 25.45 (21st).
Moore and Caitlin Amburgey finished fourth (2:12.06) and 13th (2:17.09 PB), respectively in the 800m. In the hurdles, Taylor Pegram finished seventh (13.84) while Jaela Williams captured a personal-best time (13.89) and finished ninth overall. Davis (1:01.21) and Janeek Williams (1:04.86, PB) had the second- and eighth-best times in the 400m hurdles.
Two others were able to amass personal bests on the day with with Danielle Williams in the triple jump (2nd: 38-5/11.71m) and Taylor Forte in the discus (17th: 130-5/39.77m).
The Rebels will return to the Golden State next weekend for the Stanford Invitational held March 31 and April 1 in Palo Alto.
