LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV senior Jakob Amilon was named Mountain West Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the second straight week, a league-leading fourth time this season and sixth time in his career, the conference announced Wednesday.
Amilon is now tied with Elliot Wronski (2007-09) for second on UNLV's career conference weekly honors list. The late Rebel great Mehdi Bouras is the program's record holder with seven won in 2010-11.
Playing at the No. 1 positions in the lineup, Amilon went a combined 4-0 in singles and doubles over the weekend while helping the Rebels to a pair of road victories over New Mexico and Air Force.
The native of Stockholm, Sweden, fought off New Mexico's Bart Van Leijsen 6-1, 7-6 (8) in a tiebreaker on Friday after earlier helping the Rebels earn the doubles point with a 6-0 doubles win with partner Evaldo Neto.
On Sunday vs. the Falcons, Amilon again won in doubles at the top of the lineup, 6-1, before downing Max Olson 7-5, 6-0 in singles.
Amilon also won the MW award April 12, March 15 and February 8 as well as twice in 2016.
UNLV (16-7), which has won five straight matches, plays on the road this weekend, taking on San Diego on Friday and San Diego State on Saturday.
