Yang Earns Bid To NCAA Singles Tourney

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Carol Zi Yang is the first UNLV tennis player to qualify for the NCAA Division I Singles Championship in four years as the field was announced Wednesday.

Yang (Shenzhen, China) became the ninth Lady Rebel to ever earn the honor by securing the league's automatic bid to the field of 64 by being the highest ranked player in the Mountain West at No. 48. Named All-MW for the second consecutive season, she stands 25-11 overall and has two wins over opponents ranked in the top 15 at the time of the match, including current No. 7 Viktoriya Lushkova of Oklahoma State.

The singles and doubles competition will be conducted May 24-29 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Georgia, after the conclusion of the team championship, which runs from May 19-23. The University of Georgia will serve as host.

All matches shall be the best-of-three sets. No-ad scoring and a seven-point tiebreaker (first to seven points, must win by two points) at six-games-all will be used for all matches. The draw will be released at the conclusion of the team event.
