June 21, 2017 LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) -

Six members of the UNLV swimming and diving program, three men and three women, have earned CSCAA (College Swim Coaches Association of America) Scholar All-America (Honorable Mention) honors, the organization announced on Wednesday. The Rebels also had both men's and women's squads recognized as CSCAA Scholar All-America Teams for the 2017 Spring Semester.
CSCAA Executive Director Joel Shinofield cited UNLV's success, noting: "Coach Ben Loorz has done an exceptional job of recruiting excellent students and swimmers in his first year at UNLV. We are very fortunate to have schools like UNLV and people like President Len Jessup and Director of Athletics Desiree Reed-Francois who support these exceptional student-athletes."
Senior Kasey Foley made a repeat appearance on the Scholar All-America Honorable Mention team to highlight the selections from the Rebel men's side. Joining him with their first career mentions were junior Francois Van Wynsberghe and senior Tom Paco-Pedroni.
The UNLV women were represented by senior Kristina Hendrick, making her second straight appearance on the Honorable Mention team, along with junior Mykalla Fielding and freshman Ida Schutt.
To be selected to the CSCAA Scholar All-America Team, swimmers and divers must have achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and have participated in their respective NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. Honorable Mention selections have similarly achieved a GPA of 3.50 and achieved a "B" time standard or, for diving, competed at their respective qualifying meets.
As a team, the Rebel women posted a 3.27 GPA over the spring semester, while the men's program finished with a 3.11 for the semester. The Spring Team Scholar All-America award is presented to college and university swimming and diving teams who have achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or higher in the semester/quarter coinciding with the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.
