LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV football will host a Southeastern Conference opponent during the regular season for the first time to highlight a future home-and-home deal with Vanderbilt University that was announced Wednesday by Director of Athletics Desiree Reed-Francois.

The Rebels will travel to play the Commodores in Nashville, Tennessee, Oct. 12, 2019, while Vanderbilt will return the game in Las Vegas Sept. 16, 2023.

The only time an SEC team has played in the city was during the postseason when the Rebels defeated Arkansas 31-14 in the 2000 Las Vegas Bowl. Overall, Vanderbilt will become only the fourth SEC team to face UNLV as the Rebels also played at Arkansas in 2001, at Ole Miss in 2000 and at Tennessee in 1996 and 2004.

"We are delighted to add Vanderbilt to our future schedule," said Reed-Francois. "Signing a home-and-home series with an SEC team shows how bright the future is for our program. Las Vegas is a world-class city and we look forward to hosting the Commodores and other fan bases from major programs in the coming years."

UNLV also announced that its 2019 non-conference schedule is complete as Southern Utah will be the season opener at Sam Boyd Stadium August 31. As previously announced, the Rebels that year will host Arkansas State September 7 and travel to Big Ten Conference member Northwestern September 14.

This fall, UNLV head coach Tony Sanchez will open his third season leading the program by hosting Howard University September 2 at 6 p.m. PT. That will be the first of a six-game home slate that includes BYU and Hawai'i. Season tickets, which start as low as $99, are available now by calling (702) 739-FANS (3267), visiting the Thomas & Mack Box Office or online at www.unlvtickets.com.
