LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Wearing only helmets and shorts in preparation for Saturday's big full-pads scrimmage at Sam Boyd Stadium, the Rebels turned in a crisp, high-energy effort Friday morning.

A day after letting his team have it for an unfocused effort on the field, head coach Tony Sanchez was pleased coming off the field.

"I thought today's practice was great," he said. "The guys really heard what we had to say to them yesterday and were up to the challenge.

"I thought (quarterback) Armani (Rogers) had his best day yet in camp. He did a great job with his reads, and his ball-placement and accuracy were phenomenal. It was the best we have seen from him but he has to build on it from here. Overall, I thought both sides of the ball did a great job of taking the should pads off but not slowing down in practice."

The team, which will enjoy an off-day Sunday, is now poised to stage perhaps its most important practice of #CampRebel Saturday evening (all practices this year are closed to the public).

"We are looking for a lot of reps out there -- we'll run about 120 plays so we'll get about half a game in for the 1's and the 2's," Sanchez said. "We are going to work our goal-line situations and we are going to work the four-minute offense against the defense. We'll also have a lot of live special teams -- kick return, punt return, PAT, field goal. It's going to be a lot of good stuff to put on film and to coach off of.

"It's an important day. We want to see what these guys have learned and retained from the first two weeks and who can go out there and execute in a competitive situation."
