UNLV rallied from a 2-0 deficit with three unanswered goals for a thrilling 3-2 comeback victory over Incarnate Word Saturday night in WAC men's soccer action from Peter Johann Memorial Field. The Rebels improved to 7-7-1 overall with the victory, and moved into a tie for seventh in the league with seven points off a 2-3-1 mark.
The visitors took an early lead with a goal in the seventh minute for a 1-0 advantage. The margin moved to 2-0 in the 26th minute for UIW, while Rebel goalkeeper Enrique Adame was injured on the play. UNLV countered with a goal late in the first half, and then posted a pair of goals in the second half to claim the home victory.
THE TURNING POINT:Â The Cardinals had all the momentum in the game through the first half through the first 39 minutes. In the 40th minute however the game changed when the Rebels were able to cut the deficit to half as
Tyler Allen took a pass from
Timo Mehlich and from just past midfield, sent a booming kick into the box that would find the right post, getting past the UIW goalkeeper for a UNLV score. That gave the Rebels new life, and they came out firing on offense in the second half, leading to a pair of scores.
REBEL OF THE GAME:Â The game was still tied in the 75th minute when freshman defender
Jake Mecham made the biggest play of the game. He leaped up and headed in a corner kick that would hit the bottom of the crossbar, and then bounce off the head of a defender on the goal line before going back into the goal for the score. That gave the Rebels their first lead of the night.
STAT OF THE GAME:Â UNLV had seven corner kicks to one for Incarnate Word.

Bay Kurtz shot.
