Rebels Pick Up Key Road Victory Over Roos

UNLV moves into fifth place in the WAC.

KANSAS CITY, Missouri (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV took advantage of a fortunate bounce early in the second half that combined with strong defensive play led to a 1-0 shutout victory on the road at UMKC in WAC men's soccer action Friday night at Durwood Stadium. The Rebels won for the first time on the road in five games to move up to fifth in the league standings with 10 points off a 3-3-1 mark (8-7-1 overall).

The Rebels dominated possession for the majority of the night, and created numerous scoring chances throughout the game, but were styimed by the UMKC goalkeeper who came up with four saves on the night, including a pair on point blank attempts. UNLV would take the lead in the 47th minute though, and were able to hold onto the victory despite playing shorthanded for the final eight minutes after a red card on the Rebels.

THE TURNING POINT: Following a scoreless first half, the Rebels earned a pair of corner kicks to begin the second stanza. The second attempt into the box was sent back out by a Roo defender, but Rebel midfielder Jesus Partida tracked down the ball on the right side. He then kicked a ball to the far left post, and no one was able to get a touch on the ball, including the UMKC goalkeeper as it hit the back of the net for the eventual game-winner.

REBEL OF THE GAME: Senior goalkeeper Nate Bohn earned the first shutout of his career as he coordinated a Rebel defense that held their opponent scoreless for the fifth time this season.

STAT OF THE GAME: UNLV did not allow a shot on goal, and only six shots total (13-6 shot margin, 5-0 on shots on goal).

QUOTABLE: "The guys grounded out a great win today against a determined UMKC squad. We created a few scoring chances that could have opened the game, but their goalkeeper played tremendous. However, a fantastic win and three points on the road."
- Head coach Rich Ryerson
