LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV football (2-7/0-5) continues to look for its first Mountain West victory of the season after falling 48-3 to No. 20/23 Fresno State (8-1/5-0) Saturday night at Sam Boyd Stadium.
The Bulldogs finished with 466 yards of offense and methodically pulled away after leading 17-0 at halftime. FS scored in every quarter, including 17 in the third quarter. The Rebels only managed a 28-yard field goal by
Evan Pantels with 10:13 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Quarterback
Max Gilliam, again starting in place of injured starter
Armani Rogers, completed 14 of 30 attempts for only 98 yards.
STAT OF THE GAME:
UNLV, which missed an earlier field goal and ended the game on the Fresno State six-yard line, was able to extend its school-record streak of not being shut out to 91 games when it hit the fourth-quarter field goal. The last time the Rebels were shut out was Oct. 29, 2011 (37-0 at UNR).
REBEL OF THE GAME:
Fresno native
Charles Williams led all rushers with 121 yards on 16 carries. It marked the third Rebel this season to reach the century-mark game this season, joining RB
Lexington Thomas (four times) and QB
Armani Rogers (three times). In just two games against his hometown team, Williams has rushed for 274 yards on just 34 carries.
QUOTABLE:
"I thought the guys came out and played with some good energy early in the game. You saw that defensively, I thought our guys held up really well and did some really good things and made them work for what they were getting. Offensively, that was tough, they're a good defense and when they are playing a lot of drop-eight and coverage, you've got to be able to run the football downhill and we struggled doing that tonight. Obviously very disappointed in the outcome and we've got to continue to work."
-UNLV Head Coach Tony Sanchez
