LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV's contingent went a combined 7-1 in singles and doubles Friday to open the annual Rebel Women's Tennis Invitational being staged at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
 
Joining the Rebels in the impressive lineup this weekend are competitors from Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Purdue, Iowa, Arizona, Air Force, Liberty and North Texas. The tournament marks the final event of the fall season for the Rebels.
 
In the top flight of singles, 49^th-ranked Aiwen Zhu swept Minying Liang of North Texas, 6-3, 6-3. She and partner En-Pei Huang, ranked 37^th nationally, won their doubles match 6-3 over Meredith Jones and Ashleigh Harvey from Air Force.
 
Also winning their opening singles matches for the home team were Huang, Anna Bogoslavets, Izumi Asano and Samantha Li while Asano and Li also won together in doubles play.
 
Action resumes Saturday with doubles semifinals starting at 10 a.m. PT. Admission to all matches is free of charge.
