LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV track & field program has signed two sprinters from California for the Rebel roster, with one eligible to compete in the spring of 2019, while the other will join the Scarlet & Gray during the 2019-20 season, head coach
Yvonne Wade announced.
Alexis Surrell graduated from Newark Memorial High School (Newark) earlier this year and took the fall off before choosing to become a Rebel. Surrell owns personal-best times of 24.35 in the 200m and 53.90 in the 400m. At the 2018 CIF State Championships, she finished fourth overall in the 400m and ninth in the 200m.
Thalia Reid, a senior at Sheldon High School (Sacramento), has posted bests of 24.49 in the 200m and 55.39 in the 400m, with the latter coming in a first-place finish at the Sac Joaquin Section DI Finals.
UNLV signed Jazlynn Shearer to the 2019-20 roster last month. Shearer attends Silver Creek High School in San Jose, California, and ranks as high as No. 8 in the United States in the triple jump at 41-0 (12.5m). She is also No. 11 in the 100m hurdles (13.66) and No. 12 in the long jump (20-1/6.12m).
QUOTABLE: "We are excited to add Alexis to our team mid-year," said Wade. "She will make an immediate impact for us this season. Thalia will make a great addition to our Rebel family next fall. She will be an important piece to add to our team as we are building up a strong, young team to compete not only in the Mountain West, but also nationally."
