Rebels Sit Third After Day One At MW Indoors

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field program sits third overall with 12 points after the first day of competition at the 2018 Mountain West Indoor Championships at the Albuquerque Convention Center. Stella Clemens produced eight points for the Rebels with her second straight runner-up finish at the three-day conference meet, while the Distance Medley Relay added four points from its fifth-place showing.

Clemens amassed a personal-best 3,823 points -- the third-best performance in UNLV's indoor record book -- with help from a win in the shot put (43-2.25/13.16m) and a tie for second in the long jump (18-6.50/5.65m). During the five-discipline event, she posted personal bests in the shot put and 60m hurdles (8.93).

The quartet of Avi'Tal Perteete, Yamilet Biggers, Spencer Moore and Elisa Rovere legged out a program-best, altitude-adjusted time of 11:31.59 (11:42.22) for fifth place in the event comprised of the 1200m, 400m, 800m and 1600m. Just two weeks ago in Seattle, the foursome clocked a time of 11:38.42 to break a record that dated back to 2014.

Friday's action begins at 1:00 pm MT (12:00 pm PT) with the long jump, which will be one of three events (weight throw and high jump that will be decided that day, while the majority of the competition on the track will be qualifying for Saturday's finals.

STANDINGS AFTER DAY ONE: The UNR Wolf Pack sit atop the standings with 16 points, while the host New Mexico Lobos follow behind in second (14). The Boise State Broncos (10), Fresno State Bulldogs (eight), Colorado State Rams (seven), Air Force Falcons (six), Wyoming Cowgirls (three), San Jose State Spartans (one) and Utah State Aggies (one) round out fourth through ninth place.
