March 16, 2018 COLUMBUS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV had two athletes compete Friday at the 2018 NCAA Women's Swimming & Diving Championships, held this year in Columbus, Ohio at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavillion on the Ohio State campus.
Sophomore Sofia Carnevale finished 34th out of 48 swimmers in the 100 breast with a time of 1:00.74, just 0.08 seconds away from 33rd. She will be competing tomorrow in the 200 Breast, where she is seeded 54 out of 57 swimmers.
Senior Myka Fielding finished her UNLV diving career placing 42nd out of 48 divers on the 3 meter board with a score of 251.50. This was her first NCAA Championship competition.
QUOTABLE:
"We are proud of Myka for finishing her career with such a highlight; competing in the top dive meet in the country is something that she wasn't even close to a year ago, and her tenacious self-improvement has paid off. That's a great way to finish a career.
Sofia had a solid, if not spectacular, preliminary swim. I think it is so important to be at this meet as she looks ahead to the next two years; there is no better experience to accelerate her long-term development than being here. It has been a great meet overall, and she competed with characteristic poise today."
