March 24, 2018 UC Riverside Spring Track Classic Results
RIVERSIDE, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field program notched 15 top-eight finishes at the two-day UC Riverside Spring Track Classic this weekend. The Rebels got wins from Kaysha Love and MacKenna Howard in the 200m and shot put, respectively, while the team also had a pair of second-place showings.
Love's time of 23.83 in her debut in the 200m was a meet record by 0.19 seconds, as it broke the mark set by North Dakota State's Rose Jackson in 2016.
Howard's win in the shot put came with a winning throw of 48-9.5 (14.87m). She was third overall in the hammer with a personal-best distance of 171-6 (52.28). She also claimed seventh in the discus (140-7/42.86m).
Nylia Hudspeth ran a personal-best time of 54.60 in the 400m, which was good enough for second place.
In a pair of track events, Tenia Landrum and Kylee Vandenberg were seventh in both the long jump (18-3/5.56m) and javelin (129-4/39.42m), respectively.
QUOTABLE: "We are gradually working our way back into things and taking these first few meets easy, while letting our team recover," said head coach Yvonne Wade. "We will be back in full swing in the next couple of weeks, so I'm pleased with the progress, thus far."
