Box Score

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV baseball team (24-11) completed the season sweep of the Arizona State Sun Devils (14-19) Tuesday evening with its 14-6 victory at Earl E. Wilson Stadium. The Rebels scored seven of the game's final eight runs to pull away from the Sun Devils after a six-run cushion was cut to two after the visitors scored four over the fourth and fifth innings.

With the win, the Rebels improved to 5-0 against teams from the Pac-12 Conference this season, which includes a pair of wins over Utah and a triumph over Oregon.

The Scarlet & Gray's offense registered 20 hits -- six of which went for extra bases -- off of ASU pitching with all nine offensive starters collecting one apiece, while seven of those had multiple-hit efforts. Vince Taormina paced the team with a 4-for-5 performance, while Bryson Stott and Kyle Isbel had three hits each. Overall, the offense registered a .476 batting average (20-for-42) against the Sun Devils.

Delving deeper, the 20 hits produced 14 runs and 13 RBI with four players having multiple-run efforts and five had multiple-RBI games.

ASU opened the game with a solo home run from Spencer Torkeleson, but the lead was short lived as the Rebels plated four in the bottom of the first with help from five hits and a pair of walks. Kyle Isbel opened the scoring barrage with an RBI double, while Nick Rodriguez followed with a two-run single. Later in the frame, Vince Taormina brought a run home off an RBI single. The lead grew to six when Isbel and Nick Ames produced an RBI double and RBI single, respectively, and Rodriguez scored off a wild pitch in the second.

After the Sun Devils pulled within two after their fifth-inning at-bat, Stott gave UNLV some breathing room with a sacrifice fly in the home half of the fifth. He and the Rebels put the game away in the seventh with six runs sparked by a two-run triple by Dillon Johnson. Rodriguez, Ames, Grant Robbins and Taormina kept padding the lead with run-scoring base hits.

THE TURNING POINT: Moments after ASU pulled within two runs following a fifth-inning, three-run home run, UNLV went to the bullpen and brought in Blaze Bohall, who inherited a runner on base. Bohall allowed one single, but got out of the inning with a fly out and a 4-6-3 double play. The Rebels followed up offensively with Stott's sacrifice fly.

REBEL OF THE GAME: Taormina went 4-for-5 with one double and added two RBI and one run.

STAT OF THE GAME: UNLV had seven batters register multiple-hit games.

STAT OF THE GAME, PART DEUX: UNLV's 1-4 batters scored 11 of the team's 14 runs, and also knocked in eight of the team's RBI.

QUOTABLE: "Hopefully, this game gets us going again," said head coach Stan Stolte. "They've lacked energy this past week; although, travel may have had something to do with that, but they were challenged and answered the bell tonight. We need to carry this into the weekend against a tough Air Force team.

REBEL NOTES:

- The Rebels are 16-3 in home games and 8-8 in road games.
- The Rebels are 12-2 in games with a five run or larger score differential.

- The Rebels are 21-4 when they limit an opponent to six runs or less.
