LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's tennis team closed out its home schedule with an impressive 11-1 mark after blanking Montana 7-0 Thursday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.

The Rebels improved to 12-5 overall with their third straight victory while the Griz fell to 7-13.

Before the match, the squad's lone senior, Mercedes Lopez of Madrid, Spain, was honored. Lopez then helped her team secure the doubles point by pairing with Juliet Zhang for a 6-4 victory on court two as UNLV won two of three.

The hosts then dominated singles play -- not allowing a Montana player to win more than three games in any of the 12 sets.

REBEL OF THE MATCH: Aiwen Zhu, ranked 56th, nearly pulled off a remarkable feat in not allowing her opponents to score even a single game in both singles and doubles. However, she had to settle for a 6-0 blanking in doubles and a 6-0, 6-1 final in singles over Julia Ronney. Zhu improved to 22-8 overall, including 13-2 in dual matches as a junior.

STAT OF THE MATCH: In its 12 home matches this season, UNLV held its opponents to one or zero points eight times and only gave up more than two points twice this spring at Fertitta.

QUOTABLE: "It was nice to send our senior, Mercedes, out with a win in her final home match. I felt that we competed well today and closed out sets by being aggressive. We appreciate everyone who came out to support the team today and all season long."

NEXT FOR THE REBELS: UNLV will head north to face UNR Sunday starting at 11 a.m., weather permitting. The match is part of the annual Governor's Series presented by NV Energy and Barrick Gold.
