LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV's Alexandr Cozbinov has been named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) 2018 Mountain Region Senior Player of the Year.

Cozbinov was earlier named this year's Mountain West Men's Player of the Year after going 18-9 overall, including downing the nation's No. 1 ranked player, Martin Redlicki of UCLA, on the Bruin star's home court.

Named All-MW for the third consecutive season, the native of Chișinău, Moldova, is the seventh Rebel to earn the Senior Player of the Year Award and second in as many years as former teammate Jakob Amilon was named a year ago. He is now one of 10 regional winners eligible for the national honor.

Cozbinov, ranked 99th, is currently in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, awaiting his debut at the NCAA Singles Championship. He will face No. 30 Alexsandre Bakshi of Oklahoma Wednesday at 9:30 am PT on the campus of Wake Forest. The winner of that match will move on to face the winner of 11th-ranked Brandon Holt of USC vs. No. 44 Guy Iradukundra the following day.

Cozbinov joins UNLV women's standout Aiwen Zhu in the 2018 championship. This marks only the seventh time in history that the Rebels saw both a men's and women's player selected to the NCAA singles event in the same year and the first time since 2005.

All matches shall be the best-of-three sets. No-ad scoring and a seven-point tiebreaker (first to seven points, must win by two points) at six-games-all will be used for all matches.
