UNLV junior wide receiver Darren Woods Jr. (Missouri City, Texas/Elkins High School) is one of 106 players on the 2018 Wuerffel Trophy Watch List, which was announced Thursday by award organizers.
 
The Wuerffel Trophy, known as "College Football's Premier Award for Community Service," is presented annually to the player who best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement. The Wuerffel Trophy, now in its 14th year, is named after 1996 Heisman Trophy winning quarterback, Danny Wuerffel, from the University of Florida.
 
Woods, a two-time Academic All-MW honoree, is a team leader in community service and slated to start at one of the Rebels' wideout slots. In 2017 he ranked third on the team with 30 receptions for 366 yards.
 
Semifinalists for the award will be announced November 1 and finalists will be announced November 19. The formal announcement of the 2018 recipient will be made at the National Football Foundation's press conference in New York City December 4. The presentation of the 2018 Wuerffel Trophy will occur at the 50th All Sports Association Awards Banquet Feb. 15, 2019, in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.

UNLV opens its season September 1 at USC. The home opener is September 8 vs. UTEP. Season tickets are on sale now starting at only $99 for all six home games.
