Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Scoreless Draw For The Rebels

Second straight shutout for UNLV in a 0-0 double-overtime tie with the Roadrunners.

Despite controlling the flow of the game for the majority of the afternoon, UNLV men's soccer had to settle for its first tie of the 2018 season as the Rebels (6-5-1, 1-1-1 WAC) and CSU Bakersfield (3-6-1, 1-1-1 WAC) posted a scoreless draw in double-overtime in WAC action Sunday from Peter Johann Memorial Field.

UNLV had its chances, and sophomore midfielder Marco Gonzalez would provide the majority of the best looks the Rebels had on goal, including a long blast from 35 yards out that almost caught Roadrunner goalkeeper Rodrigo Sarmiento napping at the 53rd minute, but he recovered in just enough time to tip the ball up and off the crossbar. Gonzalez had another chance in the opening seconds of the first overtime when he took the ball past the CSUB defense on the left side and unleashed a shot at the goal that Sarmiento was just able to stop. Neither team was credited with a shot in the second overtime, and the game would end in the first tie of the season for both squads.

STAT OF THE GAME: UNLV attempted 12 corner kicks, to five for the Roadrunners.

REBEL NOTES:
* This was the fourth shutout of the season for the Rebels, and marked the first time UNLV has posted back-to-back shutouts since Sept. 11, 2015, a 2-0 win over Mercer that followed a 2-0 win over Pacific on Sept. 6.
* UNLV currently stands in a tie for fourth place in the WAC with four points of a 1-1-1 mark.
* Junior goalkeeper Enrique Adame posted the 10th shutout of his career. He was credited with four saves in the game.
* UNLV held an overall 14-9 edge on shots, and 5-4 on shots on goal.

NEXT FOR THE REBELS: The Rebels will play a pair of road games, starting with a Friday night contest at Seattle with a 7 pm kickoff. UNLV will then travel down to California for a Sunday, 1 pm match at San Jose State. Both games will be streamed live on the WAC Digital Network, available on UNLVRebels.com as well as through the Roku, Apple TV, Fire TV and Android streaming devices.
