SEATTLE (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV track & field's
Mackenna Howard posted a personal-best mark of 59-0.25 (17.99m) to win the weight throw on day one of the UW Invitational at the Dempsey Indoor.
The Rebels also got an eighth-place finish from
Cassidy Osborne-Butler in the weight throw with a mark of 54-11.25 (16.74m), while teammate
Acacia Astwood had personal-best measurement of 52-5.25 (15.98m).
In the Distance Medley Relay, the quartet of
Avi'Tal Wilson-Perteete, Amari Prude,
Kara Smith and
Elisa Rovere finished 13th overall (11:46.88) amongst some of the top distance programs in the country. In fact, four of the squads recorded times that bested the meet record in the event.
Stella Clemens amassed 3,496 points in the pentathlon.
DAY TWO: The Scarlet & Gray will return to the Dempsey Indoor for the 400m, 800m and invite shot put. Both Howard and Osborne-Butler will throw in the shot put, while Rovere and Wilson-Perteete will run in the 800m. The Rebels will be represented by
Yamilet Biggers in the 400m.
NOTE: Howard has one-upped herself in back-to-back weekends with personal-best distances in the weight throw. Last week at the Lumberjack Team Challenge in Flagstaff, Arizona, she threw 58-4.00 (17.78m).
ALL-COMERS MEET: The UNLV track & field program will host its second All-Comers Meets at Myron Partridge Stadium & Sheila Tarr-Smith Field on Feb. 16. Participants (open to the public) can enter the meet for $5 for one event or $10 for two or more. Spectators are $5. Action begins at 9:30 am with the shot put and concludes at 12:50 pm with the 4x400m relay.
