Runnin' Rebels Fall To 5-2 In MW Play With Loss At San Diego State

Aztecs defeat UNLV 94-77 on Saturday, Runnin' Rebels return home to host No. 7 UNR Tuesday night.

SAN DIEGO (UNLVRebels.com) - San Diego State's Jalen McDaniels had game highs of 30 points and 13 rebounds as the Aztecs defeated UNLV, 94-77, Saturday at Viejas Arena.

The Aztecs (11-8, 3-3) had a total of four players in double figures in scoring as they improved to 9-2 at home.

The Runnin' Rebels (11-8, 5-2) had three score in double figures, led by freshman forward Joel Ntambwe's 19 points. Sophomore guard Amauri Hardy made four 3-pointers, adding 18 points with a team-high eight rebounds, while junior forward Nick Blair scored 13.

It was just the second loss for UNLV in conference play. The Runnin' Rebels are tied for second place, one game back in the standings.

STAT OF THE GAME: San Diego State shot 70.8 percent in the second half (17 of 24) and totaled 56.1 percent for the game (32 of 57).

SLOW START: UNLV fell behind early, trailing 11-2 after four minutes. The Runnin' Rebels cut their deficit to just two points at 29-27 with six minutes to go in the first half, but the Aztecs extended their lead to 11 at halftime.

NOTES: 
- It was SDSU's sixth straight win vs. UNLV at Viejas Arena and 10th in the last 11 games.
- The loss snapped a two-game win streak for UNLV.
- UNLV made 13 3-pointers, marking the fourth consecutive game that the Runnin' Rebels have made at least 13 from behind the arc.
- Hardy and senior guard Noah Robotham combined for 12 assists with just three turnovers.
- UNLV shot 51.6 percent from the field in the second half (16 of 31).
- San Diego State attempted more than double the free throws that UNLV shot (30-14).
- UNLV was out-rebounded 38-29.
- Sophomore forward Mbacke Diong missed his fourth straight game because of an injury suffered at New Mexico on Jan. 8
- Ntambwe scored in double figures for the 11th time in the last 12 games. He was 8 of 16 from the field, including 3 of 6 on 3-pointers.
- UNLV has made at least one 3-pointer in a NCAA-record 1,058 straight games.
