LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV won an ITA regional doubles championship for the first time Sunday as En-Pei Huang and Izumi Asano finished off a perfect week together at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.

Playing on a windy but sunny morning, the Rebels' top duo rallied in the first set and then held on in the second to top NAU's Adrianna Sosnowska and Mimi Bland, 7-5, 6-4. Huang and Asano actually trailed 5-3 in the opening stanza before winning six straight games, which gave them both the opening set and a modest lead in the second.

Seeded seventh here at the Mountain Regional, the Rebel duo went 6-0 through a run that included knocking off the No. 2 seed from Air Force and the No. 6 seed from Utah. The UNLV women have won five ITA regional singles titles and now can finally boast a doubles crown.

"A great week and I'm really proud of the girls," said head coach Kevin Cory. "They played an aggressive match today in difficult conditions. The last three were really tough matchups for them and it was nice to see them pull through against some of the top teams in the region."

Members from 20 western teams faced off as individuals on 12 courts each day in both singles and doubles. In the event's singles final, NAU's top-seeded Chiara Tomasetti eased by Colorado's fourth-seeded Sara Nayar 6-2, 6-1.

The ITA Regional Championships feature some of the top men's and women's players across the country. More than 8,000 student-athletes from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, Junior and Community Colleges compete across 85 ITA Regional Championships around the country. In Division I, regional doubles champions and regional singles champions and finalists qualify for the season-ending Oracle ITA National Fall Championships.
