LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) -Â The UNLV women's basketball team continues to expand its recruiting base in Las Vegas, as two of the three Lady Rebel fall signees will be playing for their hometown school as Head Coach Kathy Olivier announced three players have signed national letters of intent to play for the Lady Rebels starting in the fall of 2020-21. Comprising the class is Desi-Rae Young, Jade Thomas and Jasmine Singleton.
"We are so lucky to have all three of these winners," said Olivier. "They all have been well coached and should make an impact in our program right away."
Thomas is a name already familiar to Lady Rebel fans. She will be joining her older sister, Bailey, on the Lady Rebel squad as she will be a senior in 2020-21. Thomas will also be the fourth player off the Las Vegas powerhouse Centennial HS squad, joining her former teammates
Justice Ethridge who is a sophomore this season, and
Melanie Isbell, a freshman on the squad. A 5-10 shooting guard, she averaged 8.5 points, five rebounds, 1.7 steals and 1.3 assists per game while helping the Bulldogs to their fifth straight state championship title last season, as well as a No. 4 national ranking and a spot in the GEICO National Tournament . Thomas was named first-team all-state in 2018-19 and is a two-time Las Vegas Super 7 selection,Â
"Jade is just like her sister Bailey," said Olivier. "She's extremely fit and will do anything to help her team win."
The second Las Vegas native to sign is Young, a 6-1 power forward from Desert Oasis HS. As a junior, she averaged 11.4 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.5 steals per contest while picking up second-team all-league honors and all-region honors as well. Team MVP last season, she helped the Diamondbacks, the Southwest League champions, to the state championship game before they fell to Centennial HS in the finals.Â
"Desi-Rae is a competitor who has a nose for the ball," said Olivier. "She is an explosive rebounder with a long wingspan."
The third recruit hails from Goodyear, Arizona, as Singleton is a 5-7 point guard for Millennium High School. She earned second-team all-state honors and first-team all-region recognition her junior season while leading the Tigers to the state championship title. Singleton was also a three-time team defensive Player of the Year for the Tiger
"Jasmine will defend the full length of the court," said Olivier. "A scrappy, competitive point guard who gets the ball to the right people at the right time."
