LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's and women's swimming team will hit the road for the TYR Invitational held at the Norris Aquatics Center at Northwestern University from Friday to Sunday.
Top performers for the Rebel men this season have been freshman Chris Mykkanen who leads the WAC in the 500 free (4:33.35), senior
Hayden Hemmens who ranks second in the 500 free overall (4:35.48), freshman Panos Bolanos who tops the WAC in the 100 back (48.96) and junior
Richard Szilagyi who leads the WAC in the 100 free (45.04).
Setting the pace for the Rebel women are sophomore
Carissa Armijo who is first in the MW in the 500 free (4:56.24) and sophomore
Julia Filippova who is second in the 500 free in the MW (4:59.59).
"We are looking forward to finally putting on some fast suits and seeing where we are at competitively," explained head coach
Ben Loorz. "This is a select travel squad, about 16 student-athletes, so this weekend is less about team points and more about putting out some times that are at the top of our respective conferences."
