EVANSTON, Ill. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men and women's swim teams finished the final day of the Northwestern University's TYR Invitational, which is being contested at the Norris Aquatics Center, Sunday. The Rebels competed against Northwestern, Toledo, Saint Louis and Simon Fraser. 

REBEL OF THE DAY
Freshman Panos Bolanis touched first in the 200 back with a school record time of 1:42.22, the 6th fastest time in the NCAA.

THE RUNDOWN - WOMEN: 
*Junior Kate Afanasyeva touched second in the 100 free (50.52), sophomore Julia Filippova finished fourth (50.86), junior Caitlyn Schreiber placed fifth (51.55).
*Schreiber touched first in the 200 fly with a time of 1:56.91, sophomore Carissa Armijo placed 10th (2:04.49).
*Afanasyeva took second in the 100 back with a swim of 53.67.
*Closing out the meet, Afansyeva, Filippova, Schreiber, and Armijo touched third in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:25.06.

THE RUNDOWN - MEN:
*Freshman Christopher Mykkanen finished fourth in the 1650 free with a time of 15:45.18.
*Freshman Panos Bolanis touched first in the 200 back with a school record time of 1:42.22, the 6th fastest time in the NCAA. Freshman Ogi Maric placed fourth with a swim of 1:46.48.
*Junior Richard Szilagyi touched second in the 100 free (44.31), followed by senior Hayden Hemmens who placed fourth (44.80).
*Sophomore Ivan Zukov placed fourth in the 200 breast with a swim of 1:59.59, junior Sean Gage finished sixth (2:02.52).
*Sophomore Michal Cukanow placed third in the 200 fly (1:48.62).
*The 400 free team of Mykkanen, Gage, Bolanos, and Zukov touched third with a time of 3:01.53.

QUOTABLE-
"We got what we came for this weekend, a lot of good racing and execution. I'm looking forward to having the whole team in action in a few weeks at the UNLV Invite. Obviously the highlight today was Panos, and we are all proud of him for breaking the record. There is work to be done, however, we've got to get better at finishing a 3-day meet before we head to Conference, and that is our next task as we head into the heart of the season."
