LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV women's tennis squad has yet to allow an opponent to score a team point at home this season after taking another pair of 4-0 matches at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on Saturday.
The Rebels improved to 7-2 overall and 5-0 at home after downing New Mexico State in the morning match and UC Riverside later in the day. UNLV has not allowed a team point since downing Lamar 6-1 in Texas on February 2.
Against the Aggies Saturday, UNLV won two of three doubles matches to earn a 1-0 lead and then took the first three completed singles matches to quickly end it.
After a two-hour rain delay in the afternoon, the Rebels and Highlanders started with singles play and the hosts won four straight-setters to close things out. Doubles were not played.
REBEL OF THE DAY: Aiwen Zhu, ranked 81
st in the nation, went a combined 3-0 on the day, including one doubles victory with partner
En-Pei Huang.
QUOTABLE: "We did a good job closing out sets against two good teams today. We are looking forward to our first Mountain West match tomorrow."
-UNLV Head Coach Kevin Cory
NEXT FOR THE REBELS: UNLV will face its first conference opponent of the season Sunday when the Rebels host Colorado State starting with doubles play at 10 a.m. Admission to all home matches is free of charge.
