LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – Rebel track & field's
Stella Clemens claimed victory in the heptathlon Friday at the UNLV Spring Invitational & Sheila Tarr-Smith Multis. Clemens recorded 4,800 points and finished in the top two of five of the seven disciplines that comprise the event that was contested at Myron Partridge Stadium & Sheila Tarr-Smith Field. The three-day meet concludes Saturday.
Clemens won the shot put with a measurement of 39-8 (12.09m), and took second in the 200m (26.66), 100m hurdles (15.03), high jump (5-3/1.60m) and javelin (116-8/35.57m). She was fourth in both the long jump (17-0.75/5.20m) and 800m (2:35.76).
In the hammer throw,
Mackenna Howard took second with a distance of 163-11 (49.96m).
Saturday's schedule will feature a total of 19 events – 12 track and seven field – and begins at 7:30 am with the women's 10K. The first field event will be the women's shot put at 9:00 am. The women's and men's 4x400m relays will take place at 3:15 pm and 3:30 pm, respectively, and signal the end of the meet.
The Rebels will face competition from six squads from the Beehive State, as BYU, Dixie State, Southern Utah, Utah Valley, Weber State and Westminster College will travel south down I-15. Fresno State, Northern Colorado and Cerritos College will also participate in the season-opening meet.
