LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's tennis team continued its strong play at home this season with a 4-1 victory over Idaho State Tuesday afternoon at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
The Rebels improved to 10-4 overall and 9-1 in Las Vegas while the Bengals of the Big Sky fell to 5-7.
ISU bolted to a 1-0 lead by taking the first two completed doubles matches for the team point and pushed four of six singles matches to three-setters. However, UNLV, which was still missing its top player in singles play, was able to win a pair of straight-set matches on courts five and six and then clinched the comeback with wins at the top two positions.
REBEL OF THE MATCH: Eric Samuelsson and partner
Clayton Alenik were leading their doubles match at the top of the lineup when it was halted and Samuelsson gutted out a 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 win over Peter Trhac at the No. 2 slot in singles.
QUOTABLE: "After losing the doubles point we had our hands full in singles but managed to get the win. We will now focus on getting healthy and ready for next week."
-UNLV Head Coach Owen Hambrook
NEXT FOR THE REBELS: UNLV will host the University of Montana on March 27 starting at 3 p.m. Admission is free of charge.
