RIVERSIDE, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV track & field team registered 23 top-eight finishes, which included six victories, on the final day of the UC Riverside Spring Classic. The Rebels won the 4x100m relay, 4x400m relay, 1500m, 100m hurdles, shot put and triple jump at the meet contested at the UC Riverside Track & Field Stadium.
Besides the plethora of victories, the Scarlet & Gray had three of its own move into the program's all-time performance list, as
Cassidy Osborne-Butler is third in the shot put (51-1/15.57m), and
Avi'Tal Wilson-Perteete and
Jonon Young are fourth in the 1500m (4:25.57) and triple jump (40-6.25/12.35m), respectively.
Wilson-Perteete and Young's efforts won them their events, while Osborne-Butler finished second in the shot put, right behind teammate
Mackenna Howard's throw of 52-1 (15.87m).
The three other victories came from
Taylor Pegram in the 100m hurdles (13.65) and the two relays, the 4x100m and 4x400m.
Drea Austin was a member of both relays, teaming with
Emerald Bowens,
Kaysha Love and
Jada Hicks to win the 4x100m relay, and Amari Prude,
Alexis Surrell and
Gizelle Reid to claim the 4x400m relay.
The Rebels competed against Azusa Pacific, Cal Baptist, Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Los Angeles, Sacramento State, UC Irvine, UC Riverside and Utah Valley.
REBEL NOTES:
- UNLV's had seven of its own record personal-best efforts Saturday, as Osborne-Butler (shot put), Wilson-Perteete (1500m) and Young (triple jump) were joined by
Emma Wahlenmaier (1500m/4:43.39),
Kara Smith (1500m/4:50.77),
Jaylen Walker (triple jump/37-4/11.38m) and
Simona Bocancean (discus/124-5/37.93m).
- Osborne-Butler was also fifth in the discus (140-11/42.96m).
- Young was also fifth in the long jump (17-11.50/5.47m).
- Howard was also seventh in the discus (135-5/41.27m).

Jaela Williams was top-three in two events: second in 100m hurdles (14.24) and third in long jump (18-7.25/5.67m).
NEXT TIME OUT: UNLV stays on the road, but travels to the Lone Star State for the Texas Relays in Austin. The three-day meet will run March 28-30, and will be hosted by the University of Texas.
