LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – Fresh off a midweek sweep of the Big West's UC Riverside Highlanders, the UNLV Rebels will venture back into Mountain West play to host the New Mexico Lobos three times at Earl E. Wilson Stadium this weekend. The first two games of the conference tilt are scheduled to start at 6:05 pm Friday and Saturday, while the series finale is set for 1:05 pm Sunday.
These three contests signal the end to the Scarlet & Gray's nine-game homestand, which has seen the Rebels claim five of the six completed affairs. This lengthy stretch began with a victory over CSUN (March 19) and continued with a 2-1 showing against UNR (March 22-24) and two wins over UCR (March 26-27).
While UNLV has been recording wins, UNM has not been as successful. The Lobos began the year 10-4, but have seen their record drawn even at 12-all with losses in eight of their last 10 games. The Duke City squad began their downturn with a loss to Cal State Fullerton (March 10) in the third and final game of their nonconference series after UNM had won games one and two.
Historically speaking, UNLV and UNM have squared off a total of 180 times with the first meeting taking place in Las Vegas in 1978. The Rebels own a 10-game lead in the head-to-head series, notching 90 wins to 80 losses. The Scarlet & Gray won the last meeting – 8-3 on April 22, 2018 in Albuquerque; however, the Cherry & Silver had claimed victory in the previous eight dating back to the 2017 campaign.
