SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) – It took nearly all of Friday but the UNLV men's tennis team ended up losing for only the second time this season, 4-1, vs. Cal Poly at Avila Bay Club.
The non-conference match was pushed back twice because of rain in the area and finally moved off-campus for a rare evening start. The Rebels fell to 8-2 overall while the Mustangs improved to 4-5.
Cal Poly took the doubles point by winning two of three matches. The Mustangs clinched the 1-0 lead with a 7-5 win on court three. Moving to singles play, the teams proved nearly equal with an amazing seven of 12 completed sets needing to extend to seven games. Five of those, however, went the way of the hosts.
REBEL OF THE MATCH: Freshman
Milos Dabic scored his team's only point, improving to 4-0 with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Dominic Bechard on court five.
QUOTABLE: "We matched up well on every court and everyone competed well tonight. Unfortunately, we let a couple of matches slip away in the end."
-UNLV Head Coach Owen Hambrook
NEXT FOR THE REBELS: UNLV will be right back at it Saturday when it faces Denver in a neutral-site affair on the campus of Cal Poly, scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
