Rebels Finish 11th In Phoenix

Sophomore Jack Trent shot 4-under 67 during final round to record Rebels' top individual performance.

PHOENIX (UNLVRebels.com) The UNLV men's golf team shot even-par 284 during the final round of the ASU Thunderbird Collegiate Saturday and finished in 11th place at the tournament, which was held at Papago Golf Course (par 71, 7,333 yards).

The host No. 2 Sun Devils captured the team title by 12 shots at 20-under 832, while No. 7 Texas placed second at 8-under. UCLA finished third at 7-under, while ASU's "B" team and No. 1 Oklahoma State both tied for fourth at 2-under. The Rebels' 54-hole total was 14-over 866.

Individually, ASU's Chun An Yu earned medalist honors by four shots at 12-under 201. Texas' Cole Hammer placed second at 8-under.

UNLV was led by sophomore Jack Trent, who tied for 18th at even-par 213 after a final-round 4-under 67. Trent recorded six birdies with a double bogey Saturday.

There were a total of 14 teams and 80 individuals competing.

REBEL NOTES: 
• UNLV is the three-time defending Mountain West champions. 
• Last year's team also finished third at the NCAA Regional in Columbus, Ohio, and placed in the top 20 at the NCAA Championship. 
• Trent earned the Mountain West Freshman of the Year award last season, while Harry Hall and Trent were both recognized as All-MW performers. 
• Hall was named a Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar in July. 
• UNLV has played in a NCAA-record 30 straight regionals. 
• This year marks head coach Dwaine Knight's 32nd season leading the Rebel program.

NEXT FOR THE REBELS: UNLV will look to win its fourth straight Mountain West title as the conference championship will be held April 26-28 in Tucson, Arizona.
