LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV earned a three seed and will face second-seeded Texas Tech in the first round as the NCAA Women's Tennis Championship official bracket was released Monday.
Â
The 2019 Regular-Season and Mountain West Tournament Champion Rebels (17-6 overall), who won an automatic bid, will travel to Marks Tennis Stadium in Los Angeles to face the 26th-ranked Red Raiders (17-8), an at-large entry from the Big 12 Conference, on Saturday, May 4, starting at 9 a.m. PT.
Â
The following day, the winner of that match will take on the winner of Missouri Valley Conference champion Illinois State (20-6) vs. 13th-seeded host USC (18-7), an at-large entry from the Pac-12 Conference.
Â
Using a 64-team format, the women's first and second rounds are scheduled to be held at 16 different campus sites. The champions of those regionals advance to the NCAA Super Regionals on eight campus sites May 10 or 11. Finally, the remaining eight teams will head to Orlando, Florida, for the finals hosted by UCF at the USTA National Campus May 16-19. The singles and doubles portion of the tournament will take place May 20-25. That field of players will be released Tuesday.
Â
This marks UNLV's first NCAA trip since 2016 and 13th overall. Eight of those events took place in the state of California, including also competing at USC in 2002 and '08.
Â
"We're excited to be returning to the NCAA tournament," said 20th-year UNLV head coach Kevin Cory said. "We feel we are playing our best tennis right now and are looking forward to the challenge of facing a program like Texas Tech this weekend."
