LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Over a three-week period that spanned May and June, new UNLV men's basketball head coach T.J. Otzelberger embarked on a whirlwind tour of the Las Vegas community as part of the Runnin' Rebel Caravan in an effort to meet with as many people and organizations as possible.
The community appearance blitz that included Coach Otzelberger, his family, the men's basketball staff and student-athletes, included 35 organized events over a three-plus week time frame.
"It was awesome," Coach Otzelberger said following the final Caravan event on June 8. "Being a part of this community is something that is very important to me as well as our program. It was great to get out and connect with all of our amazing fans. I really enjoyed meeting everybody, you can feel the energy, passion and excitement. We have some great things in store for us."
Several of the events were open to the public such as a meet and greet at Frankie's Uptown at Downtown Summerlin that preceded Coach Otzelberger throwing out the first pitch at the Las Vegas Aviators baseball game at Las Vegas Ballpark, and appearances at Silver Mesa Recreation Center, PKWY Tavern at The District, and Bob Price Community Center.
Many more events were held privately with local organizations and businesses.
